Brand Announcement: Barker

Shoes are a valuable component to every man’s wardrobe. Here at Roosevelt and Co. we strive to present brands that are uniquely different. It is important for us to work with companies that embody the qualities we value most. Qualities such as character, history, and craftmanship are top priority to us, especially when it comes to shoe wear.

 We are excited to announce our newest brand to the shop from English shoemaker, Barker.  This British company has been around for more than 135 years and is certainly rich in history.  

"Arthur Barker was a skilled craftsman and natural innovator, whose waterproof peg-sole boots were highly sought after. Barker invested in factory premises at the turn of the century, later securing contracts to supply the British army with boots during the First World War. Throughout the interwar years, the Barker brand went from strength to strength as Arthur's three sons joined the family business, taking the brand into new markets and territories.."

 

Barker is also widely admired for their careful attention to detail:

"Only the most carefully selected leathers are used, and the uppers are shaped on the last by hand. Many other traditional shoemaking methods are still employed including slow natural drying and polishing. This is why Barker English shoes have a unique quality that no machine can ever match."

 

A proper shoe can make all the difference in a long hour’s day on your feet.

"A typical Barker shoe requires over 200 operations during the production process. An important process in this department is ‘Welt Sewing’. The welt is the key element in the Goodyear Welted process. The bottoms of the shoes are filled with cork and wooden shanks to provide breathability, insulation and support beneath the insoles."

 

Barker also offers a welted rubber sole for those of you who may be standing for extended hours. Not only are the rubber soles a benefit to your health, but they also transition well into various climates.

Each shoe comes with a complimentary shoe horn. This additional piece ensures you will never have trouble getting them on while also preventing leather creasing around the heel.
