May 6, 2023, Churchill Downs will be swarmed with those who both follow horse racing and those who are there merely for the experience. The hats, dresses, seersucker, suits, bold patterns, and plaids that will be found on display are certainly half the fun! Whether you will trod the grounds there in Louisville or will enjoy a local watch party, prepare yourself for a truly southern soiree with a side of Mint Juleps, pimento cheese and pecan pie! Here we are pleased to share some of our more bold and punchier finds from the store and of course, a recipe.
The Mint Julep
A True Southern Classic (See ingredients at end)
Directions
Place the mint leaves and sugar or simple syrup into a julep cup, Collins glass, or double old-fashioned glass. Muddle well to dissolve the sugar and release the oil and aroma of the mint. Add the bourbon. Fill the glass with crushed ice and stir well until the glass becomes frosty. Garnish with a mint sprig.
Ingredients

4 to 5 mint sprig, leaves only

2 sugar cubes, or 1/2 ounce simple syrup

2 1/2 ounces Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon
